Update July 6th, 2010
It was H-O-T on Tuesday!!! Whew steamy, and we had some people coming out to win the crazy ball contest! It was fun and all but one ball made it through the 9 holes. Fun was had by all.
The winner of the "best ball" was Pat Walsh

The winner of the lowest crazy ball was Peggy Hughes, Jane Alison, and Caroline Brinker. They logged a 46 with their crazy ball! Prizes will be given out next week after our round.
Shannon Reilly had a birdie on #17!! Way to go Shannon. She has also birdied #11 this year. FANTASTIC!!
Chapter Championships are coming up~!!!! I encourage everyone to get their handicaps up to date and play!!! This is a fun time..... and you play against people with similar handicaps so it is really fun and fair~!!!
This week Rule: WATER HAZARD
There are three different color posts / out of bounds type situations.... White, yellow and Red.... It is easiest to remember what you must do by the color of the marker~!!!
YELLOW is the color of the water hazard. If the ball lies within the water hazard, touches it, or is lost you have 3 options... (remember from last week if it is OB -white- you only had one option and it was to shoot another ball and take a penalty stroke as well.. so three strokes basically for one ball
With Yellow you can choose the best option for you:
- Without penalty, play the ball where it lies if it is found.
- Return to the closest point where the ball was last played - One Stoke Penalty
- Visualize a line between the hole and the place where the ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard and, drop your ball anywhere behind the water hazard on the extension of that line with NO LIMIT as to the distance.
*Remember:
- if you lift your ball for identification in any hazard -1 stroke penalty. So if you can play it inside the red posts... DON'T PICK IT UP~!!!.
- if you "test the conditions" with by touching the ground or water with hand or club - 2 stroke penalty
- delaying your stoke cuz the ball is moving in the water or current to improve the position of the ball - 2 stroke penalty
- touching, moving or removing loose impediment when the ball and the loose impediment both lied in or touch the hazard except in the backward movement - 2 stroke penalty.
*It is your privilege to:
- Hit a moving ball in the water of a water hazard
- touch the ground in removing an obstruction
- touch the ground in a hazard in order to prevent a fall
- probe for your ball with a club if it is believed to be lying in a water hazard. no penalty will be incurred if the ball is moved in doing so.

Don't forget to send in your registration for Loch Nairn Outing on May 15th with the Delaware Chapter~! It should be a ton of fun.
5-4-10: League play starts this week !!! game of the day will be: Lowest putts!!!! winner wins a free round next week!!!!
Rule of the week..... weird colored sticks out there........
WHITE: This is an out of bounds (OB). If your entire ball lies out of bounds, then you need to pay attention to this rule!!! You only have ONE OPTION!!! Take a drop on the site of the last storke, with one penatly stoke.
If you think you might be OB (out of bounds) Tell your group "I am hitting a provisional ball" and if your ball first hit ball ends up being OB.... Then your second ball becomes the ball in play... remember... This is with one penalty stroke!!!
So here is the situation. You pull the ball way right... and you see there are white posts there..... you are not sure if your ball landed past the white posts... say "I am going to hit a provisional" and shoot that ball. If your first ball is still inside the white posts... you must play that (even if it is not that good of a spot to hit your next shot!!! you must play it - no penalty) If your first ball is completely past the Out of Bounds White posts... hit the second ball with a penatly stroke.
Now here is the kicker... say you hit your ball towards a white post... and you dont THINK it is OB and you don't hit a provisional...... once you get to your ball and is IS OB!! you have to go BACK to the last shot and hit again... counting the shot that put that ball out of play (in OB) AND a second stroke penatly BEFORE you hit your next shot~ Then your next shot!!!!! Moral of this story~ if you are heading towards the white posts... hit a provisional just in case~!!!! You don't want to walk all the way back to your last shot :-)
4-27-10 We had a cold and wind round, but it was fun~!! Next week we will start our league play. The game of the week will be lowest putts~ make sure you get out this weekend and practice!.
The schoolteacher was taking her first golfing lesson. "Is the word spelt p-u-t or p-u-t-t?" she asked the instructor. "P-u-t-t is correct," he replied. "Put means to place a thing where you want it. Putt means merely a vain attempt to do the same thing." Peggy
We had a great practice round on 4/20!! The weather was great and everyone finished. Play was mostly at a good clip, but remember to try and keep your pace to just 12-15 minutes per hole. The best round is when you can keep moving!!!
Please take a moment to explore this site with in the USGA; where you can do a interactive quiz on the rules of golf~! Sort of good to way to learn new rules... Check it out~!
This Weeks rule review:
Lifting and Cleaning Ball
A ball on the putting green may be lifted and, if desired, cleaned. The position of the ball must be marked before it is lifted and the ball must be replaced
If it is not marked, the player incurs a penalty of one stroke and the ball must be replaced.
If a ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved in the process of lifting the ball under a Rule or marking its position, the ball or ball-marker must be replaced. There is no penalty, provided the movement of the ball or ball-marker is directly attributable to the specific act of marking the position of or lifting the ball. Otherwise, the player incurs a penalty of one stroke
Look forward to 4-27!! There is a cheese steak special for $5.00 on tuesdays... it was pretty good~!
