Welcome to the EWGA Greater Philadelpha Chapter

The EWGA Philly Chapter covers Philadelphia, Lower Bucks, Montgomery & Delaware Counties and South Jersey. Our goal is to provide fun opportunities for women who enjoy golf to meet and play with other women who enjoy the same. To meet that goal, we have several leagues in the Philly Metro area that provide weekly golf at some really nice courses, and we also have monthly golf outings during our April - October season. We also offer clinics and other educational events at various locations to help you improve your game.

We welcome all levels of players beginner - scratch and all ages. So come check us out - we think you'll like us! Keep checking our calendar of events and league pages to keep up with our activities.

Our First Chapter Clinic of the Year

SeaOaksGroup2.jpg
Despite the ugly weather on Sunday, 16 of us had a great time at the first Philly Chapter clinic of the year last weekend at Sea Oaks Country Club in Tuckerton, NJ. The clinic, run by VIP Golf School provided small group instruction on all parts of the golf swing.

On Saturday morning, after dividing into 2 groups, one group worked on the short game while the other worked on the long game and after lunch, we switched. The day ended with instruction on the course.

On Sunday, we had to stay inside but had the benefit of all of the instructors input about the most the important points of the golf swing.

All in all, everyone had fun, got a lot of information about the golf swing and took home some valuable tips to improve our games.

League Info

One of the great benefits of belonging to EWGA Philly is the ability to play in weekly leagues that are spread throughout the Philadelphia area. So why is this considered such a great benefit and why should you join a league?

  1. YOU CAN PLAY MORE GOLF:: It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or scratch player, if you don't belong to a country club you probably don't play the amount of golf that you'd like because you don't know enough women golfers to play routinely and it becomes cumbersome to arrange weekly games.  The EWGA Philly leagues offer the ability to play every week and/or even up to 3 times a week with women who love to play golf.
  2. YOU CAN IMPROVE YOUR GAME:  By playing in a league, you constantly improve your game by learning from others and practicing weekly.  You'll start setting weekly goals for yourself.  You'll start thinking more strategically about how to navigate the course.  You'll get more focused on your game.  Some leagues offer weekly competitions/games that will boost your confidence in your ability to play.  Bottom line, the more you play, the better you'll play!
  3. YOU'LL MEET NEW FRIENDS:  It's amazing the amount of camaraderie that is created throughout the season.  Many women who have met through the EWGA Philly leagues begin to play golf with each other outside of the league play.  EWGA Philly members are extremely friendly and want to enhance other women's golf experiences.  You'll likely find someone to support your golf goals and even mentor you if you're just beginning. No need to avoid playing the game you'd love to play just because you think you'll be criticized for the way you play.  That's not our goal!
So if you're looking for a way to play more, better golf in a friendly environment, keep checking our league pages for updated information. To participate in our leagues, you must be a member of EWGA. Guests are welcome to "try us out," by playing twice with one of our leagues before joining.

Monthly Trivia

April Trivia Question

Which of the following are naturally left handed?
Rory McIlroy
Phil Mickelson
Jordan Spieth
Bubba Watson

Trivia Question Answer

       Bubba Watson

Did you pick Phil? Despite being the most talented left-handed golfer ever, Phil Mickelson is naturally right-handed. He learned to play golf mirroring his father’s swings and it worked so well for him, he never had reason to change.

EWGA Chapter Championship Registration Now Open

The EWGA Championship started in 1995 and has grown to be the largest women's amateur championship in the world!  And...we want EWGA Philly to have a big presence!

Here's some info about it for you:

STAGES OF THE EWGA CHAMPIONSHIP
  • The Chapter Championship, an 18-hole local qualifying round held at each Chapter location. The Philly Chapter qualifier will be held on May 20 at White Manor Country Club
  • The Semi-Final Championship, an 18-hole round held at 15 venues from June – August. Our division's will be held on August 4, 2018 at the Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, DE
  • The EWGA Championship Finals, a two-day, 36 hole event held on October 13 - 14, 2018 at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, FL
The EWGA Championship offers two different competitive formats: Stroke Play Competition and Inter-Chapter Team Scramble Competition. You select the competitive format that best fits your game, personality and skill level.

STROKE PLAY COMPETITION
Stroke play competitors play in one of five flights at the Chapter Championship qualifying event based upon their USGA Handicap Index.
  • Championship Flight: 0.0-10.0
  • First Flight: 10.1-17.0
  • Second Flight: 17.1-24.0
  • Third Flight: 24.1-32.0
  • Fourth Flight: 32.1-40.4

TEAM SCRAMBLE COMPETITION
Chapter scramble teams consist of four (4) women who meet the eligibility requirements to play in the EWGA Championship. The team “handicap factor” is established based on the USGA Handicap Index of all four players.

TO QUALIFY, EWGA MEMBERS MUST:
  • Follow the registration guidelines distributed by your local Chapter
  • Be a female, EWGA member in good standing*
  • Have a verifiable USGA Handicap Index and have an equivalent of two 18-hole scores posted to your handicap record in the current year, prior to the handicap cut-off date for their respective Chapter Championship
  • Be an amateur golfer as defined by USGA Rules of Amateur Status
Members of all skill levels are encouraged to compete so give the Championship a try and put your game to the test!  We are hoping to get a couple of scramble teams together for those who do not wish to compete in stroke play.

Registration Deadline is May 3, 2018  Click here for a step by step guide to registration or go directly to the registration page here.  (you will be taken away from this site for each)
