The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of EWGA was formed in 1995 under the leadership of Cindy McGeever and Chris Buba. League play began at Springfield Country Club in Delaware County. Later the group moved to Paxon Hollow and added General Washington (now known as Shannondell) and Warminster's Five Ponds as league sites.
Kathy Dunn and Kathy Connell served as the first event chairs and arranged outings at Wyncote, Center Square, Mainland, and Westover. As membership grew over the years, more league sites were added to include Indian Spring in Marlton, New Jersey and Island Green in northeast Philadelphia. Developmental leagues were started at Wood's in Norristown and Island Green to help introduce beginning golfers to the game. In 2005, President Angel DeElse put in place a program that earned us recognition from EWGA as a Chapter of Excellence. A highlight of each year is the Summer Sizzler held at the Jersey shore. This two day event in July is the Chapter invitational and draws EWGA members from the Metro Northeast section. Popular venues have included Seaview, Harbor Pines, Twisted Dunes, Mays Landing, Blue Heron, Renault, and Sand Barrens. . |
