Executive Women's Golf Association

Welcome to EWGA of Greater Philadelphia

Gail Heinemeyer, President
The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of EWGA, Executive Women's Golf Association, offers many opportunities for women to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf.  We sponsor a number of 9-hole leagues in the Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware Counties geared to your level of play.  In addition, we host regular 18-hole events at woman-friendly area golf courses.

EWGA encourages woman of all skill levels -- from beginner to more expert player -- to get involved.  We offer clinics and lessons at various locations.  Golfing together builds confidence and forges lasting friendships.  And, by the way, we're not all executives.  We come from all walks of life and occupations.  We just love to play golf!

"Play a Round" of Virtual Golf on Nov. 15
Worried about golf withdrawal when the temperature drops?  Then join EWGA Philly for a day of indoor "virtual" golf at Play Around Golf in Malvern on Saturday November 15.

EWGA Philly invited golf pro Becky Dengler, who was recently named one of the 50 top teachers in the country, to join us from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30.  She will give lessons in chipping, putting, full swing and the mental side of golf.

For a cost of $26.50 per person, golfers get a round of golf on one of Play Around's state-of-the-art simulators, golf instruction from Becky, pizza, soda, chips and pretzels.  For those with stronger tastes, it's also BYOB.

Golfers Enjoy Beautiful Fall Foliage at Overnight Outing
fall_overnight_fpage.jpg
(l-r) Sherry Rhoads, Susanne DiBianca and Gail Heinemeyer pose on the first tee.
Nine Philly EWGA members spent the weekend at Delaware Water Gap Country Club in Pennsylvania's beautiful Pocono Mountains.  The weather was a little brisk, but the fall foliage was spectacular.  The hilly course posed a significant challenge to all, but who could stay very upset with their golf game when surrounded by such gorgeous scenery?  We even finished the last hole just as an outdoor wedding got underway behind the Inn (We tried not to say any bad words while putting -- very loudly, anyway!)

After a scrumptuous dinner, we enjoyed the entertainment of Ron Richardson, one of the original members of the Platters who was singing in the dining room.  The EWGA group decided if golf doesn't work out, we can go on the road as backup singers.

Prizes:  Scramble prize went to the team of Ruth Ann Rocchio (President of the Stroudsburg Chapter of EWGA) and sisters Rosemary Goldberg and Maryann Gorman.

Saturday:  Low Gross:  Jane Allison; Low Net: Gail Heinemeyer; Closest to the Pin on #4:  Jane Allison
Sunday:  Low Gross:  Leslie Carroll; Low Net:  Caroline Brinker;  Closest to the Pin on #4:  Leslie Carroll

Events Coordinator Sherry Rhoads organized the event, which included one or two nights at the Country Club Inn, breakfast, dinner and golf.  It is the last "hurrah" for the Philadelphia EWGA Chapter this season, but look for lots of exciting events in next year's lineup.

Golf clinics, outings planned for next year. Chapter seeks your input.
gail_closing_meeting.jpg
President Gail Heinemeyer highlights Chapter events planned for next year.
As in previous years, the closing event served as our annual membership meeting.  This year's event was held at Hickory Valley Golf Course on September 20.  EWGA Philly officers took the opportunity to share plans for next season and to ask for input and ideas from the membership.

As members enjoyed a buffet breakfast, EWGA Philly President Gail Heinemeyer welcomed everyone and thanked those who had volunteered to help the chapter over the last year.  Officers and League Coordinators were applauded for their work.  As a "thank you" from the Chapter, all volunteers were treated to the day's round of golf.

Gail announced the results of the officers election.  She will serve another term as president.  Both Dot Rooney and Pat Sierzant also will continue as Vice President and Secretary, respectively, for another term.

Vice President Dot Rooney then highlighted some of the golf education plans for next season.  Dot explained that Golf Education -- helping our members learn the skills, rules and etiquette of golf -- is an area our chapter hopes to stress next year.  She said the EWGA provides a manual with suggestions for clinics or seminars that we could offer our members.  The topics for these sessions include, "Beginning Golf," "Breaking 100," "How Low can you Go?" and "Skills Tests for Golfers."

Top 50 LPGA teacher Becky Dengler will offer "mini" golf schools next year.
Golf teacher Becky Dengler, whose home course is the Ed Oliver Golf Course in Wilmington, DE, has agreed to provide these types of clinics for us next year.  She will lead one or more "mini" golf schools, which will last about 3 hours each.  Becky will also be on hand for mini-lessons during our Nov. 15 "Virtual Golf" day at Play Around Golf (see article below). She may also offer golf fitness and other classes during the off season.

Becky was recently named one of the top 50 teachers in the country by the LPGA, and Philly EWGA members are very excited at the prospect of learning from her expertise.  Read more about Becky at her website, www.rebeccadengler.com.

As breakfast wrapped up, Gail asked for members' input for next year's outings and social events.  Each table brainstormed about courses they would like to play, how much they would prefer to spend, what social activities they would enjoy and other planning ideas.  Gail expressed a goal to hold at least one outing in each of the 5 counties served by our chapter next year.
